Str8-Up Uth; Starts their summer off by helping missionaries and churches reach their communities for Christ.   We are honored and privileged that we are able to help from VBS, Adopt the Block and concerts all for God’s kingdom…

The young man sitting on the stage with Justin came with a friend to VBS. On the way home he asked “what is a bible?” that young man was sent home with his very own bible and that’s what it’s all about.

When the program first began in 1949, wooden barrel banks were chosen as the collection containers.  This evolved into Buddy Barrel becoming the mascot or symbol for BGMC. (They are now plastic.)

 At SBCC, BGMC Sunday is the first Sunday of every month.  This is the day the kids bring in their money and the children have a missions lesson.  So far our kids have contributed $664.00 this year.  WAY TO GO! We encourage you, as parents, to participate with your children by making sure their barrels are full and returned each week on BGMC Sunday.  Our children are making a difference because even pennies saved can make a big impact to missionaries around the world.

 We will continue to publish the bulletin each Sunday with announcements and information you need. But you can go to the website at any time and find information and times, etc. for church events. (How many times do we all misplace our bulletin and newsletter and have to call someone to find out the information?)

 How does the website work?  When you pull it up you will see some fun pictures, basic information and tabs at the top to bring up all you need to know.  You can click on Events, Ministries, Calendar, etc.  Pastor’s Blog will have articles from the pastor.

 Check out the website and know that we will be working to improve it continually and keep it up-to-date. Also, it is a great way to introduce friends to our church and ministries.  If you don’t have internet access, check your bulletin each week and, yes, you can still call the office for any information you need.

    For Gary and Iris Murphy, the path to full commitment to Christ was a winding trail that led them to their relationship with God today.

    Both Gary and Iris grew up in Christian homes.  Gary was raised in Tujunga and feels he knew God as a child.  But as an adult, he drifted from his faith, and instead of church, he took up motor cross racing on Sundays.  Ironically, his love of motor cross brought him back to Christ — Christians in his racing group met together each Sunday before the races to talk about God and pray together.  The influence of these racers helped bring Gary back to God!

    Iris grew up on Staten Island and in Brooklyn, New York.  She attended church with her family, and accepted Christ around the age of 12 when a woman in the church challenged her, “When are you going to get right with God?”  But eventually, as an adult, Iris moved away from her faith, married a non-believing man and lived a life of partying and drinking.  They divorced and Iris, having moved to San Bernardino, visited a Christian counselor who helped her get a new start with Christ. She began to grow and heal–as a person, in Christ, and in God’s Word.

    As singles, Gary and Iris met through a church they were both attending. They married and are now attending SBCC. Gary is a Royal Rangers leader and Iris belongs to a women’s Bible study led by Charlotte Jenkins and Stacie Black. 

    The Murphys say, “We love Pastor Sam and the way he opens up the Word each Sunday,” and the friendliness of the people at SBCC.

Reaching and Equipping a Generation of Students to Change Their World for Jesus

Curtis and Sara and their two children are in Krakow, Poland working primarily with students on the university campus.  Here is a summary of a report from them.

Combine spiritually inspirational worship and teaching with evangelistic outreaches and evening concerts and you get the Polish Pentecostal Youth Camp!  This powerful combination not only changes the participants, it transforms the host city.  This year the camp was in the Northern area.

Connect ’09 – The annual training event of Students for Christ included more than 90 participants from more than 15 countries.  We facilitated a “coaching pod” of Polish and Czech attendees.  Our focus was to help apply the things we were learning as we set goals and plans for the year of student ministry ahead.  

Encounter 2010 – We are already planning for next summer’s conference in Budapest, Hungary.  This will be a global version of Connect and will include training and equipping as well as hands-on ministry through Convoy of Hope (humanitarian aide), Save Europe’s Children (children’s ministry) and street evangelism.  The goal is to plant a new church and ignite student ministry.  Your on-going prayers for this event and those of us planning it are greatly appreciated!
